The PadBot P2 robot includes all the features found in the old Padbot P1 (now discontinued).  The Padbot P2 still includes obstacle detection, collision avoidance, and an anti-falling system for security and safety while driving.

The P2, however, is taller than the Padbot P1, standing at about 3'7" tall (1.1 meters), about 10cm taller than the P1.

The Chinese version of the P2 adds facial recognition and face-tracking features, as well as the ability to 'wake up' when a human approaches, which is a great feature for businesses who wish to use the PadBot to greet and assist customers.  Unfortunately, these features are unavailable to US customers. What device does the remote user need?

Any device can be used to control the Ubbo as long as it can access the internet. PC users, tablet users, and smartphone users alike can use any web browser to control the Ubbo using the online interface.

What device should be attached to the Ubbo Maker?

You can attach almost any Android tablet (version 3 or above) to the Ubbo to use as its "head."  Bear in mind that the capabilities of this tablet will define how well you see and are seen, and how well you hear and are heard.  AXYN Robotique, the maker of the Ubbo, have tested most tablets, and all of them work. However, they recommend Samsung tablets with screens around 10" in size with resolution of 1280x800, Android Version 4.4 and above, wifi of 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth version 3 or 4, a 2 megapixel or higher camera, and a USB port.  With Android devices, the Ubbo robot switches automatically to the best wi-fi source.

Are there any options/add-ons to the Ubbo?

What does the Ohmni do?

The Ohmni includes a monitor and enterprise level speaker and microphone so you can have a remote presence right out of the box with no hassle.  Driving the Ohmni is a breeze.  It includes two HD cameras, one for the main view and one that aims at the base (and slightly behind the Ohmni) so you can easily see and avoid obstacles.  You can use keys on your keyboard to control the direction of the robot as well as tilting the camera on the robot up or down.  Additionally, the Ohmni includes a neat feature that allows you have your view correspond to where you point your mouse: Instantly view what you need.  Docking (re-charging) the robot is a breeze.  Simply drive the robot into easy view of the charging dock and press the "c" button and the Ohmni will automatically return to its charger.  Charging the battery, when empty, takes about 5 hours, which is also the approximate run time of the Ohmni.  Have wires and cords around your home or office?  No need to worry; the Ohmni can drive over them.

What does the Ohmni Supercam add over the normal Ohmni?

The Ohmni Supercam includes a 4K, 13 MP High-Resolution camera to provide zoomable content to aid in the classroom or office when viewing whiteboards, desks, or similar situations.  The video quality is the same as the original Ohmni robot, but the SuperCam is able to take those high-resolution images to zoom in for greater detail.

What do I need for the Ohmni to work at the location I intend it for?

The Ohmni recommends bandwidth speeds of at least 3 MBps (both upload and download speeds) but it can work with less.  Outside of that and the small area needed to store the Ohmni and the included charging dock, you are all set!

However, in areas where there may be a gap in WiFi access points, or no WiFi at all, there are options to connect the Ohmni using a 4G/LTE or 5G hotspot. To achieve this you would need to purchase Ohmni's USB Expansion Kit, and then connect your Ohmni via the hotspot you supply.

What does the person controlling the Ohmni need?

All they need is a PC (or Apple/Mac) computer or an Android device with a Google Chrome browser, plus the bandwidth speeds, mentioned above, of 3 MBps.  OhmniLabs, the manufacturer of the Ohmni robot, are working on adding support for iOS devices.  Currently they are in beta for iOS devices, so you'll use a Safari browser (instead of Chrome) on Apple smartphones and tablets.

What about security?

The Ohmni is safe and secure.  A server is used only to initiate a call and then take over again after the call is ended.  During the call, data is encrypted, and no information (video, audio, or otherwise) is stored.  Information only passes between the remote user and the person at the Ohmni robot's location.

The VGo telepresence robot, produced by VGo Communications, is an elegant looking robot with far more than simply the basic features that are common amongst telepresence robots.  The VGo robot features a 6-inch LCD screen. It can easily drive over rugs, thresholds, and other changes in flooring, and even has lights to help with visibility and attracting attention.  In classroom settings students have used this to replicate raising their hand to get the teacher's attention.

In corporate settings they can work with you to help ensure you stay connected between WiFi access points or if you're using the VGo robot at a convention, or similar, where there may be hundreds of robots and thousands of people. To achieve this you would need to attach a MiFi device using the USB port at the back of the VGo and use a cellular plan. For gauging what plan you would need; the VGo uses about 500mb per hour in-call.

The VGo includes other unique features such as a high-resolution camera, zoom features, text-to-voice, and a tiltable head.  An automatic docking feature is available when the VGo robot is within 10 meters (about 11 yards) and can see the charger, that point a notification appears which you can press to send the VGo to charge.  Additionally, if the VGo is bumped from the charger, it will automatically re-connect. A newer feature, less common to telepresence robots, is the ability for people to call remote users from the robot (most robots allow for the remote user, exclusively, to initiate the call). To achieve this, however, the remote user will need to be using the Windows or Mac version of the VGo application.

What do you need to drive the VGo? 

VGo encourages PC use, but the VGo robot can be controlled via tablet, too.  The VGo can be driven from a Windows or Mac PC, iPhone or iPad, or Windows tablets.  Recommended tablets include the Apple iPad or iPad Mini with a front-facing camera (2nd generation or later), and the iPhone 5 S or better, the Samsung Series 7 and the Microsoft Surface Pro (but the Surface RT will not work) and tablets with Intel i5 or i7 chips.  You can download the VGo driving app for both Windows or Mac on VGo's website while you can download the app for iPad and iPhone in the Apple Store.  VGo plans to add functionality for Android devices.  Broadband internet connection speeds of 1.5MBps upload are recommended while 768KBps is the minimum requirement.

For VGo users in the medical field?

The aforementioned high-resolution camera allows doctors to see such things as a patient's pupil reaction. The VGo can also connect to, and display, results of CT scans and electronic medical records.  Hospitals and doctors are using the VGo to visit rural hospitals, senior care facilities, in-home post-operative care patients, and to conduct rounds at rural locations from their own homes and offices.  Medical schools and hospitals have been able to involve top surgeons and specialists in medical training thanks to the telepresence capabilities of the VGo.

The LED lights mounted on the camera help users navigate dark hallways and improves the detail of snap-shot photos.  Sick or otherwise disabled students are able to use these lights as a way to signal the attention of their teachers and professors; resembling children holding up their hands as if they were present in the classroom.  The tilt feature allows the user to look up and down as they wish in order to see more than a normal video conference would allow.

The PadBot communicates with the remote user through WiFi and 4G connectivity; which is built-in.  The PadBot can be controlled only by smart phone (Android or Apple) or tablet at this time. However, Inbot Technology, the maker of the PadBot, plans to allow for Mac and Windows PC usage in the future, but have no set time in mind for this implementation.

How big is the PadBot U1 v.2 (Version 2)?  The PadBot weighs about 20 lbs. and stands at almost 3' (90 cm), a comfortable height to engage with whether seated or standing.
